Youth and Peace Universities Debates Championship

10–15 July, 2020

The Youth and Peace Debates Championship was implemented as part of the ACT on 2250 project and brought together university-based debate teams from across Sudan to engage in structured and moderated debates on peace, conflict dynamics, and the role of youth in building sustainable peace. The championship aimed to create a safe and constructive space for young people to express diverse perspectives and engage in dialogue on complex peace and conflict issues.
The championship focused on strengthening critical thinking, public speaking, and respectful dialogue skills, while promoting a culture of nonviolent discourse and constructive disagreement. Participants took part in structured debate rounds, facilitated feedback sessions, and reflective discussions designed to enhance analytical reasoning, ethical dialogue practices, and youth leadership in peacebuilding. Through inter-university engagement, the activity also fostered exchange, collaboration, and mutual understanding among Sudanese youth from different academic and social backgrounds.

Writing Competition – ACT on 2250

15 July-2 Aug, 2020

The Writing Competition was organized as part of the ACT on 2250 project to amplify youth voices and support youth-led knowledge production on peace and conflict in Sudan. The competition focused on two key themes: the root causes of the conflict in Darfur, and the role of Sudanese youth in building sustainable peace.
Young participants submitted analytical articles reflecting on these themes, contributing critical perspectives and youth-driven narratives to peacebuilding discourse. Submissions were reviewed by a specialized jury based on analytical depth, originality, and coherence. One young woman and one young man were selected as winners, and their articles were recognized and published in local newspapers and magazines, supporting the dissemination of informed public dialogue and inclusive youth participation in peacebuilding efforts.

Project Impact

The Act on Peace Project contributed to strengthening youth participation in peacebuilding by providing structured platforms for dialogue, debate, and knowledge production aligned with UN Security Council Resolution 2250.
The project enhanced young people’s capacities in critical thinking, analytical writing, and respectful dialogue, enabling them to articulate informed perspectives on conflict dynamics and sustainable peace in Sudan. Through debates and written outputs, youth were able to engage constructively with sensitive topics, including the root causes of conflict and youth roles in peace processes.
Additionally, the project contributed to youth-led peace narratives by supporting the publication of selected articles in public media spaces, increasing the visibility of youth voices and strengthening collaboration between youth initiatives and civil society organizations working on peacebuilding.
