Workshop on Social Peace and Countering Hate Speech and Racism
10–11 September, 2024
A two-day capacity-building workshop implemented in partnership with the Democratic Pillar Forum and Al-Harissat Organization, engaging 30 young participants from diverse backgrounds. The workshop aimed to strengthen youth capacities in dialogue facilitation, social cohesion, and practical approaches to counter hate speech and racism within displaced and host communities.
The sessions introduced participants to key concepts related to social peace, hate speech, racism, and exclusionary narratives, and explored their impact on community relations. Interactive discussions, group work, and scenario-based exercises were used to equip participants with practical tools for promoting tolerance and peaceful coexistence. The workshop also incorporated field-based discussions to capture Sudanese youth perspectives on social peace in Egypt and inform youth-led peacebuilding approaches.
Online Dialogue Sessions: Social Peace and Countering Hate Speech

An online dialogue session exploring social peace as a foundational pillar of sustainable peacebuilding. The sessions addressed key themes including tolerance, inclusion, social cohesion, and the rejection of racism and exclusionary narratives.
The sessions emphasized youth agency in fostering inclusive narratives and building resilient, peaceful communities.
Participants engaged in moderated discussions and interactive exchanges, sharing experiences and best practices for strengthening peaceful coexistence among youth. The sessions provided a space for reflection and peer learning, reinforcing youth roles in promoting social peace within their communities.
Online Symposium: Humanitarian Conditions and Their Impact on Peacebuilding in Sudan

A thematic online symposium examining the impact of Sudan’s humanitarian crisis on peacebuilding efforts, with a particular focus on youth participation, displacement, and long-term peace prospects.
The symposium brought together youth activists, practitioners, and civil society representatives to analyze the interlinkages between humanitarian conditions and peacebuilding. Panel discussions and open dialogue sessions explored challenges, opportunities, and youth-led responses to sustaining peace amid ongoing humanitarian and conflict-related challenges.
Closing Event of the International Day of Peace Project

A public closing event organized in collaboration with the Addif Foundation and the Sudanese Artists Union in Egypt, highlighting art and culture as tools for peacebuilding and social cohesion.
The event featured a visual art exhibition showcasing 40 artworks by five artists, alongside cultural performances and interactive discussions. The exhibition and accompanying activities provided a space for dialogue, reflection, and community engagement, emphasizing the role of creative expression in promoting tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and youth-led peace narratives.
Project Impact
The International Day of Peace Project strengthened social peace and peaceful coexistence among Sudanese youth by combining capacity building, dialogue spaces, and cultural engagement.
The project enhanced youth understanding of hate speech, racism, exclusion, and social cohesion, while equipping participants with practical dialogue and facilitation skills to counter divisive narratives. Through online and in-person dialogue sessions, youth were able to exchange perspectives, reflect on lived experiences, and promote inclusive peacebuilding approaches.
The inclusion of art and culture in the closing event broadened community engagement, highlighting creative expression as a tool for peacebuilding, dialogue, and social cohesion. Overall, the project reinforced youth agency in peacebuilding and contributed to linking humanitarian, social, and cultural dimensions of peace.
